West Coast Wire Rope, founded in 1956 by Don “Newt” Newton, grew from one small outfit in Oakland, California to three locations by 1964. Newton started his career sailing all over the world during WWII aboard ammunition ships. Between ship deployments he worked as the lead rigger in logging and constructions camps in Washington, Oregon, California, and Alaska. From 1950 – 1955, Newton partnered with well known Northwest Wire Rope Company, eventually opening his own company, West Coast Wire Rope in 1956 and buying out Northwest Wire Rope in 1959. Specializing in wholesale, retail, and the fabrication of rigging products for the logging, construction, and marine industries, West Coast Wire Rope remains the leader in this field.
